The first Great Bay grant helped to underwrite the operation of the sawmill.
Sebasticook Farms is using the second grant from Great Bay to help launch a canine boarding kennel that will be located in Pittsfield, Maine. Just as the sawmill, the kennel will employ a blended workforce, 50% regular employees and 50% employees with developmental disabilities.
The clients of Sebasticook Farms will receive training in the running of the kennel and in related skill areas, such as dog grooming, which in turn will bring increased earnings potential for the participants. With this kennel project, Sebasticook continues its commitment to develop self-sustaining businesses that employ persons with developmental disabilities in jobs they desire and have the abilities to perform.
The third ($150,000 Recoverable grant) is to upgrade and expand the sawmill.
Headquartered in the small town of St. Albans, Maine, Sebasticook Farms
provides services to adults with developmental disabilities. Since the
early 1960's, Sebasticook Farms has operated residential facilities,
provided community support services, and has owned a hardwood sawmill
that offers jobs and operated a work/employment center.
