2007 (March) Roundtable: Succession

Hanley Denning's tragic death made us painfully aware that few of us are prepared to deal with the ramifications of suddenly losing the founder and guiding force behind our organizations. Great Bay President, Peter Greenleaf, went to Guatemala City to visit with the folks struggling to keep Safe Passage afloat.

Then in March, Great Bay hosted two roundtables - one in Manchester, NH and one in Portland, ME - where grantees had an opportunity to talk about what steps needed to be addressed to assure their organizations' futures. The discussion considered both the psychological and financial aspects necessary to achieve sustainability through smooth succession.

Mission and operations are vulnerable in such transition periods, so it is vitally important that guidelines and procedures are approved and documented before an emergency situation arises. Information on this important subject will be posted in Great Bay's online Learning Center soon.
