Mission Statement

To build a public consensus to conserve and enhance the cultural, civic, economic, and ecological wealth of the Northern Forest. Toward this mission the organization strives to: Build Regional Identity; Build appreciation of the Northern Forest by promoting understanding of regional history, heritage, cultures, economics, communities, people and ecosystems; Increase Citizen Capacity for action by providing information, training, and connections among people; and Build Stewardship of the Northern Forest.

Purpose of Grant

A planning grant to test the feasibility of offering a marketing and infrastructure to help crafts-people in Maine and New Hampshire profitably sell their products .

 

Additional Information

To advance this mission, the Center employs four overall strategies:  

  • Collaborate to develop and advance policy: To bring opinion leaders together to develop shared understanding and action to advance sustainable development for the region.
  • Create and distribute information: To provide information that advance the vision through in-person, written, and technological means.
  • Harness market forces: To harness the power of the marketplace by investing in market-based projects that increase social, economic, and environmental well-being.  
  • Create leverage through partnerships: To leverage their efforts by doing all of their work through partnerships and networks and by seeking to expand the resources available to their partners to achieve the vision.
