Mission Statement

Set Free's Carpentry Shop mission is to assist individuals who at one time have been incarcerated to re-enter society and to gain the life and trade skills to help them earn a living and become constructive members of their communities.

Purpose of Grant

The grant from Great Bay Foundation will provide working capital for the shop in Augusta and allow the opening of a satellite manufacturing facility in Amherst, Maine which will employ 3 full-time individuals and work with as many as 5 inmates from the Bangor Pre-release program.

Additional Information

As part of its mission to reintegrate individuals who have recently been released from incarceration, Set Free in Maine operates a furniture production facility in Augusta Maine.  It employs individuals who have been incarcerated, have suffered from substance abuse, homelessness or are otherwise in severe need, and offers them a chance to learn life and job skills while at the same time earning a paycheck.  Set Free allows these individuals to obtain vocational training while they are also easing back into society and acquiring skills they need to live and work independently.  In addition to job training, Set Free runs re-entry programs for its client/employees.
