2007 (December) Roundtables: The Life Expectancy of a Social Entrepreneur and The Role of the Board of Directors

Great Bay hosted two small Roundtable discussions for grantees at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel on December 6th, the day before our annual conference. The topics were "The Role of the Board of Directors" and "The Life Expectancy of a Social Entrepreneur."

At the first Roundtable, lively, provocative dialogue ensued, based on the diverse range of "Board Experience" our guests brought to the table. Specific questions addressed were: are boards energizing and inspirational or controlling and confrontational?

The second Roundtable brought a variety of strong opinions, often based on real, first-hand, perspectives about "The Life Expectancy of a Social Entrepreneur." For example, has the creative visionary become an organizational dead weight and/or how does one know when it's in the entrepreneur's and his or her organization's best interest to move on?
