The Process of Social Entrepreneurship: Creating Opportunities Worthy of Serious Pursuit (2002)

Author: Guclu, Ayse, Dees, J.Gregory, and Anderson, Beth Battle
URL: http://www.caseatduke.org/documents/seprocess.pdf

Guclu, Dees, and Anderson offer a framework to "guide social entrepreneurs through the process of creating a worthwhile opportunity." The authors break the "opportunity creation process into two major steps. First, a social entrepreneur generates a promising idea. Second, the social entrepreneur attempts to develop that idea into an attractive opportunity." Guclu, Dees, and Anderson highlight the importance of both a compelling social impact theory and a plausible business model. The paper is especially useful for those considering launching a social venture. The paper can be found at the website of Duke University's Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship.
