Making Money with a Mission
In this article, author Nicole Wallace discusses the growth of nonprofits operating businesses. She highlights the fact that these businesses are not a replacement for other efforts to stay afloat financially, but rather "an important tool for meeting...social goals." Wallace provides examples of a number of nonprofits who run businesses, including Pioneer Human Services, which "runs nine businesses that provide a little more than half of the Seattle charity's annual $62-million budget." This article was produced, and is currently hosted, by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
