Since 1998, Great Bay Foundation has supported over 60 nonprofit organizations around New England in such areas as human services, economic development, health care, and education. Over the past twelve years, the Foundation has sought to create social change through social enterprise.

In fulfilling its mission, the Foundation has been guided by a set of principles developed by its original founders.  Those principles include effecting social change through innovation, encouraging self-sustainability in the work of organizations and fostering self-reliance in the lives of individuals.

In 2010, the Board of Trustees completed a thorough review of the Foundation’s mission and work. The Board determined that while the Foundation continues to be guided by its founding principles and commitment to social change, its area of impact would shift to working with selected organizations and Maine communities to improve the lives of children and families.

As the Foundation pursue this new area of concentration, the Board will consider grant requests only in response to an invitation from the Foundation.  Unsolicited applications from individuals or organizations will no longer be accepted or considered.

We’re very grateful to all those organizations and individuals that we have worked with and wish them continued success in the future.
